Yang Sing is a phonetic translation of the nickname of the city of Guangzhou in Southern China (formerly known as Canton) – 'the City of Goats'.
The Yeung family were all born in Guangzhou, moved to Hong Kong and then migrated to UK. Mr Tim Kwan Yeung was a renowned dim sum chef amongst the Chinese communities and Harry's acclaim has extended even further.
The Yang Sing was founded in November 1977 by two generations of the
Yeung family and based in George Street, Manchester. 1983 - first
ever 'ethnic' restaurant to be awarded a Pestle & Mortar (the highest
accolade accorded by the Good Food Guide, which effectively declared
that the Yang Sing serves the best food in the UK.)
1985 – Moved from George Street to Princess Street.
October 1997 - Yang Sing devastated by a fire. We had 6,000 Christmas
bookings to honour and no building! With true indomitable Manchester
spirit we moved lock, stock and wok to the G-Mex! Definitely
Christmas with a difference! Thereafter, we had a temporary home in
Charlotte Street.
1998 – Yang Sing Cathay and Yang Sing Xpression opened at the Trafford Centre.
In 1999 we were delighted to return home to 34 Princess Street, newly
designed, improved conference and banqueting facilities and a totally
refurbished restaurant.
In 2002, we celebrated our Silver Jubilee in style! Here is to the
next 25 years!
January 2006 – refurbishment of restaurant to modern 1930's Shanghai
style.
January 2012 – Bonnie and Yin Heng, the third generation of the Yeung's to join the business; keeping it in the family, here's to another 40years of tantalising tastebuds!
